I create art to express myself. I have found clay to be the best medium for this because it is the most expressive. My art work usually has many small details such as carvings and crevices. In a way, this resembles my personality. I would define myself as a simple yet intricate person. Some goals I have set for myself as an artist is to expand my skills in ceramics, especially on the potter's wheel.

 

My decision making skills in ceramics begins when I sketch my ideas out in my sketchbook. Sometimes, if I am not inspired, I research on the internet to get the ideas flowing. After I sketch out the ideas, I begin to work with the clay and that is when my art truly becomes my art. Throughout the making of my project, after I get my idea, it stays solid and I create exactly what I imagined it would look like.

 

My current work compared to my old work has truly evolved since I began ceramics. My current work is much neater and better developed. When someone views my work, I want them to understand how much effort I put into it. I want them to understand how much I have challenged myself as I progress throughout the year in ceramics. I hope I get to continue to work with clay next year as a senior and even when I go away to college. Ceramics is one of the best things that I’ve experienced in high school.
